NOTE: All applicants who are not the Family Members of USG employees officially assigned to post and Under Chief of Mission Authority must have the required residency permit to be eligible for consideration.

The U.S. Embassy in Montevideo is seeking an individual for employment in country for the Mechanic HVAC position, in the Maintenance Section - FM Office.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES

Incumbent performs all type of preventive maintenance and repairs, on HVAC and refrigeration equipment. Repairs water pipes, electric installations, transformers, fans, motors, lights, plumbing at the Chancery building, Ambassador's residence, Marine's house, DCM's residence and Transitory Apartments. Repairs appliances installed at Embassy Personnel's Residences. Incumbent will periodically serve as on-call duty technician. Escort contractors upon request.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

NOTE: All applicants are instructed to address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each criteria.

Education: Completion of, at least 10 years of formal education, including a minimum of 2 years of technical school is required.

Prior Work Experience: 2 years of experience as a refrigeration and HVAC mechanic is required.

Language Requirement: English: Level I (Rudimentary); Spanish: Level III (good working knowledge, written/spoken), are required.

Knowledge: Basic refrigeration and HVAC principles are required.

SELECTION PROCESS

U.S. Citizen EFMs and U.S. Veterans will be given preference in hiring over other equally qualified candidates in accordance with current U.S. law and State Department regulations.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
2. Successful candidate must pass a rigorous background security check. Prior criminal conviction or substantial financial indebtedness will exclude applicant from being hired.
3. Candidates must be willing to submit pre-employment drug tests and will be required to submit to random tests after employment.
4. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
5. Currently employed AEFMs who hold a FMA appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their appointment.

La Embajada de los Estados Unidos en Montevideo está llamando a candidatos para cubrir un cargo de técnico en aire acondicionado.

FUNCIÓN BÁSICA

El empleado deberá efectuar todo tipo de tareas de prevención en el mantenimiento y reparación en los equipos de aire acondicionado. Repara tuberías, instalaciones eléctricas, transformadores, ventiladores, motores, luces y plomería en el edificio de la Cancillería, en la Residencia del Embajador, en la Casa de los Marinos, en la Residencia de la Ministra Consejera y los apartamentos transitorios, propiedad del Gobierno de los EEUU. Repara electrodomésticos instalados en las Residencias del personal extranjero de la Embajada. Efectúa guardias como técnico de acuerdo a lo pre-establecido por sus supervisores. Escolta a los operarios contratados siempre que sea necesario.

Horario de trabajo: 40 horas por semana.

REQUISITOS EXCLUYENTES

NOTA: Todos los postulantes deberán justificar con información específica y comprensiva cada uno de los criterios de selección detallados a continuación.

Educación: Los postulantes deben haber completado, por lo menos, un total de 10 años de educación, incluyendo como mínimo 2 años de Escuela Técnica.

Experiencia laboral previa: Se requiere un mínimo de dos años de experiencia previa en refrigeración y sistemas centrales de aire acondicionado.

Idiomas: Nivel I de inglés (Rudimentario); Nivel III de español (buenos conocimientos de escritura y lenguaje oral).

Conocimientos: Principios básicos de refrigeración y sistemas centrales de aire acondicionado.

Habilidades: Debe poseer conocimientos básicos de soldadura. Debe poseer la habilidad de trepar escaleras. Debe poder levantar peso como mínimo de 50 libras (aprox. 22 kilos). Debe tener la habilidad de permanecer de pie, sin posibilidad de tomar asiento por largos períodos de tiempo. Debe poseer una libreta profesional de conducir, expedida en Montevideo, válida.

PROCESO DE SELECCIÓN

Podrán postularse candidatos de cualquier nacionalidad que posean residencia legal en Uruguay. Familiares dependientes de funcionarios diplomáticos estadounidenses mayores de 18 años y veteranos de las fuerzas armadas estadounidenses tendrán preferencia sobre candidatos con las mismas calificaciones, según las leyes de los EE.UU. y reglamentos del Departamento de Estado.

CRITERIOS ADICIONALES DE SELECCIÓN

1. La Administración podrá considerar casos de nepotismo, conflicto de intereses, restricciones presupuestales y de residencia para evaluar el candidato mas adecuado.
2. Los candidatos deberán superar una investigación rigurosa. Cualquier antecedente penal o una situación financiera con deudas sustanciales compromete la selección del candidato.
3. Los candidatos deberán estar dispuestos a someterse a un test de drogas previo al empleo, así como eventuales test de drogas luego de contratados.
4. Empleados actuales en período de prueba no pueden aplicar. Empleados como AEFM no pueden aplicar si no han cumplido por lo menos 90 días en su actual contrato.

DEFINITIONS:

1. U.S. Citizen EFM (AEFM): A type of EFM that is eligible for direct hire employment on either a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or Temporary Appointment (TEMP) provided s/he meets all of the following criteria:
  - U.S. citizen;
  - Spouse or dependent who is at least age 18;
  - Listed on the travel orders of a Foreign or Civil Service or uniformed service member permanently assigned to or stationed at a U.S. Foreign Service post or establishment abroad with a USG agency that is under COM authority;
  - Is resident at the sponsoring employee’s or uniformed service member’s post of assignment abroad, approved safe heaven abroad, or alternate safe heaven abroad; and
  - Does not receive a USG annuity or pension based on a career in the U.S. Civil, Foreign, or uniform services.
2. EFM: Family Members at least age 18 listed on the travel orders of a Foreign or Civil Service or uniformed service member permanently assigned to or stationed to a U.S. Foreign Service post or establishment abroad with a USG agency that is under COM authority who do not meet the definition of AEFM above.
3. Member of Household: A MOH is a person who 1) has accompanied, but is not/not on the travel orders of a U.S. Citizen Foreign or Civil Service employee or uniform service member permanently assigned to or stationed at a U.S. Foreign service post or establishment abroad; 2) Has been declared by the sponsoring employee to the Chief of Mission as part of his/her household; 3) Resides at post with the sponsoring employee.
4. Ordinarily Resident (OR): A citizen of the host country or a citizen of another country who has shifted the main residency focus to the host country and has the required work and/or residency permits for employment in country.
5. Not-Ordinarily-Resident (NOR): Typically NORs are AEFMs and EFMs of FS, GS, and uniform service members who are on the travel orders and under Chief of Mission authority, or other personnel having diplomatic privileges and immunities.
