The
U.S. Embassy’s public affairs section is sponsoring
the production of “Momentos Con Emily,” a play
by Uruguayan writer Milton Schinca.
The play opens Friday, Jan. 23, at 9 p.m.
at Teatro del Centro, on Plaza Libertad. The production
features distinguished Uruguayan actors, Estela Medina and
Levon, and is directed by Nelly Goitino, a prominent member
of Uruguayan theater.
The work is based on Emily Dickinson's thoughts
about the mysteries of love, identity and death. The 19th
century American poet lived a private life, often sending
baskets and flowers with notes and poems to friends and
sick town folk. Only 10 of her poems were published in her
lifetime. After her death in 1886, more than 1,700 poems,
which she had bound into booklets, were discovered. The
fame of her poetry spread until she was acclaimed throughout
the world.
The play is scheduled to run six consecutive
weekends as follows:
Fridays and Saturdays at 9:00 PM
Sundays at 7:30 PM
