Sylvia Vignoles Sherwood was born in Uruguay
of British parents in 1943. Her love of art and proficiency
to handle colours was evident from her youth, when she started
weaving tapestries. In 1973, she participated in her first
important exhibition. Nine years later, after ten very successful
exhibitions of her tapestries –including one in the
Museum of Visual Arts in Buenos Aries, Argentina–
she moved to Lima, Peru, and concentrated on painting in
oils, which, until then, she had studied while giving preference
to weaving. In Peru, later in Equador and when she returned
to Uruguay, she continued her painting studies and has had
six individual exhibitions of her paintings and participated
on over 40 exhibitions in different countries, including
Great Britain and the United States.
Her paintings are in private collections
in the U.S., Great Britain, Germany, Brazil, Argentina,
Columbia, Equador, Peru and Uruguay, amongst others.
