Deborah Bennett studied at the University of Illinois School of Fine Arts and the Academia delle Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. She has had numerous exhibitions in Italy and in the United States, most recently at Opus One Gallery in Atlanta. She currently lives in Uruguay and paints many local subjects. "With the invention of photography in the second half of the 19th century, one of the main functions of realism, the portrayal of people and nature exactly as they are, diminished," says Ms. Bennett. "That is when we witness the rise of impressionism and other experimental schools of painting, endeavoring to replace realism with new artistic visions."
